Vic: Heatwave causes massive spike in deaths
The most severe heatwave in Victoria's history may have caused more than 300 deaths
during the last week of January.
Health authorities recorded a 62 per cent jump in deaths between January 26 and February
1 .. with 980 deaths occurring.
The figure is 374 above the average of 606 for the same week over the past five years.
A government report shows the heatwave may have been more deadly than Black Saturday
.. in a horror week when power blackouts exacerbated the problem.
